The inconvenient thing about Trade was that it was a "gay club" (albeit with a very mixed/straight crowd ~ you certainly didn't have to be gay to go there) but I could never find anyone to go with, so I never went. Sunnyside Up was straight. To be honest there's nothing really sexual about any club except a full-on sex club. Or the terrible beer-monster meat-market nightclubs that I'd never bother with anyhow...
The clubs I went to were far more drugsual than sexual, though a nightclub was far more than a venue to get off your tits on Ecstasy. The biggest factors in a Great Night were who was DJing and who was there. The vast majority of the time I used to turn up to clubs on my own (as many, many others did) because when I went to a party the same faces were always there time after time and meeting up first at pubs where nobody really wanted to drink alcohol anyway (drink and E don't really mix) was just a big waste of time. I made so many friends clubbing that I was totally friended out. A person can only have about four or five best friends but I was totally deluged by Fabulous People.
The one single drug that I cannot sincerely say was rubbish, not worth it, a big waste of time etc was Ecstasy, because E was so special. The first time I took remember feeling a great expanding glitter-ball of energy explode from the middle of the dance floor and thinking "this music is so 3D" and that was my first rush. And then I broke out in the most incredible euphoria I'd ever experienced ~ far, far higher and more transcendent than anything you'd ever feel off drink or pot. Ecstasy is the nearest thing to chemical love I have ever experienced. An incredibly deep and intense feeling of empathy and connectedness to all people. Dancing on ecstasy was the first time I ever danced without even knowing it. The whole experience was just like an extended happy dream, but the amazing thing was that you shared this dream with all your friends and all other Chemical Dreamers in the room.
If I ever took E again, I think I'd want to take it with my Mum. (If I asked her, I think there's a chance she'd say yes.) Maybe we could break down years of estrangement and pain with the one drug I've ever found that reliably breaks down inhibitions and barriers and "opens the heart"... We aren't physically estranged. But there's emotional estrangement and I've tried and tried to break through it, writing letters etc., but nothing so far has worked...
But as for drugs, I don't need them any more. All week I've felt good, the same kind of good people snort coke to feel but without the irritability, the jitters, or the cost. Example: the other night I was just lolling around the lounge, as you do, when I felt this incredible rush of star-spangled excitement building up and breaking out and flowing around my heart in rainbows of loveliness. And this was on NO DRUGS AT ALL!! How fantastic is that?

yeah!
Im wondering about the taking extacy with your mom.
ReplyDeleteCan you predict how it will affect her?
Cheese its scarey thinking if I ever had shared it with my mom.The consequences. She might..oh I cant write it.
May be theres something mellow you can share like pot.Dont mind me my thinking is trashed with the hangover and lack of sleep.Heres a buttermilk biscuit with KFC buttery spread kissXoXoXo
Taking Ecstasy with my Mum, how would it affect her? Probably make her feel extremely calm with a soaring high mood and a sudden need to talk about deep and meaningful things and to hug.
ReplyDeleteOnly problem is she has angina and E raises the heart rate. Still I don't think it would harm her.
She DID say (seriously) that she wanted to die tripping on LSD, but dying of heart failure on Ecstasy isn't REALLY a good substitute. Ukh yes I would be terrified of her dying but the chance is one in several million, probably less than one in a hundred million, considering they said TWO MILLION people in the UK used to take it every weekend and only 17 died per year (and even then most had taken other drugs so it was impossible to pin it on Ecstasy alone)...
... anyway, I say this but like I also said, I feel no need at all ever to take the stuff again. I don't need it any more...
Thats good that you dont need it.
ReplyDeleteI never tried it.The only things I ever liked were anything that calms me down. But there habit forming and I hate needing anything.Anything but food.Xoxo
I've never met anyone who seemed to be addicted to ecstasy as in taking it every day. I would never ever take it more than once in a week. Taking stuff like that which floods your brain with serotonin and dopamine is like flushing the toilet; there's absolutely no point trying to do it again in too short a time as it just will not flush properly and you're going to be v disappointed. Also ecstasy did have a come-down which I didn't always feel. Sometimes I was no more tired than you'd expect to be after staying up all night; other times I'd get a distinct low on the midweek. When I was clinically depressed ecstasy made me feel really horrible afterwards. It doesn't mix with alchol and (so I've heard) really dehydrates you and would make you feel crappy if you drank on top of it. Also alcohol is supposed to destroy the marvellous high...
ReplyDeleteBTW the only exceptions to the taking Ecstasy only at weekends rule ALL came from America from before the era of widespread raves (ie before the 2000s) and none of the people who did say they took it every day even seemed to be on the rave scene... I can't imagine what taking it every day would do to your brain but probably cabbage you... Then again I did see a thing on TV years ago where researchers opined that taking too much E would make you really anxious but by interviewing people eg this girl who said she'd done it every day for 100 days in a row, (something like that and that is a CRAZY thing to do) she said no she never got anxious in fact afterwards she felt unusually calm! Which shows how much the experts know. Especially the type of expert who researches a drug they're too scared to take themself!
ON THE OTHER HAND I have met 2 people, both female, who took it once each and by their accounts it was really strong and BOTH had panic disorders (ie episodic panic attacks) afterwards, which went on for months and years. So it's NOT ALL GOOD...
By "Before the era of widespread raves (2000s)" I mean widespread raves in AMERICA. Our raves started in the late 80s and were mainstream by the 90s. I mean, people liked to think of what they were doing as "underground" but it was totally mainstream.
ReplyDeleteThere was a late night weekend youth TV programme called The Big E which suposedly stood for Europe, even though half the articles were about America. At the start, the phrase appeared on screen "coming up on the E" ~ coming up on an E means your MDMA is just starting to work ~ so it was all a nudge and a wink to what we all knew. About 1 in 3 people I knew (and I had some very straight and normal friends back then) had tried E and I'd say that was pretty representative of my generation. I'd reckon all in all about half the people my age have tried it at least once. And like I said, they estimated 2,000,000 Brits were popping it every weekend ~ which seemed a v reasonable estimation ~ certainly not an overestimation.
Our Es used to cost £15 in 1991/2 ($25). By 1998/1999 I could get 10 really good ones for £50 ($80). Way cheaper than it cost in America.
The American mass craze for Ecstasy and raves only took off in the 2000s, which is weird because the London party scene became noticably more subdued after 2000 ~ that's when I and loads of others gave up going out regularly...
Hiya Gledwood,
ReplyDeleteMDMA is certainly one of the most enjoyable, fullfilling, gratifying, sensual, best, etc. etc.(I'm sure you get my drift) drugs available on the black market. If there were 2 drugs to be made legal then MDMA along with THC would be the ones for me.
More people die each year from paracetomal than all the other drugs put together, unfortunately paracetomal OD's are purposefull where most OD's on illicit drugs are accidental. I've seen people lose the plot on MDMA, I've seen people lose it on weed, but nothing compares to the havoc that is caused by alcohol ! Alcohol causes more harm to our society & individuals than all other drugs put together yet it remains legal ??????
Drugs can be dangerous, life can be dangerous, crossing the road can be fatal !
A cup of tea can induce mania, should caffiene be legal ?
If as many people died from a disease as died from a road "accidents" it would be classified an epidemic !
We live in a crazy world ! Little if any makes sense to me. But what I do know is that if love was a drug it would be ECSTACY.
Karl XX
Remember that government advisor who pointed out that horse riding was more dangerous than Ecstasy. Of course it is, and what's so scandalous about pointing out a pretty obvious truth? More people DROWN IN THE BATH each year than die on E.
ReplyDeleteYeah I used to think they should sell it in Boots in the form of a plastic flower bud which you press from underneath, then the flower blooms, with a pill in the middle. How beautiful would that be?
As for THC I can't say I agree with you. All it ever did for me in the past 15 or more years was bring on schizophrenia crossed with Alzheimers ~~ not pretty!
I just got a crash course in exctesy.Good night to you Gledwood. Hve a good restful sleep with sweet dreams.
